Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: A sigmoidoscopy/biopsy results show Crohn's colitis. The gastro has suggested a colonoscopy and an aggressive treatment for the above condition. I would like to get a second opinion on this.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy to be done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you,

As per your sigmoidoscopy, lesions are seen in the rectum. But rectum is spared in Crohn's disease. But it is always not the rule.
On the other hand the biopsy report is suggestive of Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease can affect any part from mouth to anus. The most commonly affected part is the junction of the small and large intestine. So a colonoscopy has to be done.

After completing the colonoscopy and based on the findings treatment for Crohn's disease may be decided.

I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Thanks for the prompt response.

What are your thoughts on the treatment? I've already been asked to take medicines including Mesacol OD, Omnacortil & Azoran. Should I wait until the colonoscopy is done before starting on these medicines?
