Suggest Treatment For Constant Cough When Diagnosed With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: I've just been diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, I have no heartburn, bad taste in the mouth or many of the other symptoms described. What I DO have is a near-constant cough, both dry and phlegmy. I sometimes feel a if I'm drowning in phlegm. I've been tested for allergies - all negative, no problems on x-rays and CT scans of sinuses or chest. I'm taking Omeprazole 40 mg, in the morning and before bed and, although I have been sleeping well, it's having no effect during the daytime. The treatment seems to demand a radical lifestyle change (tomatoes, bacon, wine, chocolate) a new job. My question is this; could we be looking at something else? If it's a disease, is there a cure - not just a temporary fix?

Brief Answer:
Seems like typical Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM,

I read carefully your query,

Yes, GERD is a disease, and it can be cured, just needs its time. Your symptoms seems typical.

The cure is what you are taking, and you may need to use it for 6-8 weeks, and meanwhile be careful of your diet. I understand that is difficult to change the lifestyle radically just like that, but it is good for your health.

Also losing weight, eating often and small amounts, elevating the head of your bed, are some things that may help.

I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if you need more clarifications. I will be happy to answer.
