Question: I have a constant dry mouth, I wake up with mucus with blood in it. I also have taste in my mouth like I just ran a mile ( this is all the time).

I currently take Valsartan and fish oil caplets every day.

Hi,

Dry mouth, with bloody mucus and altered taste can have different causes.

Mucus is the mouth and throat is usually due to post nasal drip of mucus. Post nasal drip is not detected in 1 out of 5 persons with the symptom, they do not have the drip itself but present with the possible complications such as dry mouth, coughing, sore throat- some or all of these may occur.

Post nasal drip can be associated with dry mouth and abnormal taste as well. The blood would occur because it causes inflammation of the airway.

The symptoms are not a known side effect of valsartan. Some other possible causes are- side effect of medication, infection of the respiratory tract

Using medication such as a topical nasal spray eg nasocort, nasonex, rhinocort would help. If this does not improve symptoms then a oral antihistamine/decongestant- benadryl d, zyrtec d, allegra d etc
