Question: My 3 year old granddaughter has been constipated for 2 days. My 3 year old granddaughter has been constipated for 2 days. We have giver her fruit, stool softner and finally a childrens lacitive tonight. She has been crying for 3 hours. We think she is afraid to go because it hurts. What is something else we can do for her

Thanks for writing to us.
Constipation at this age is mainly due to lack of fiber and water in the diet. Kids tend to drink lot of milk and eat less fiber ( vegetables and fruits ).
But don't worry.
You have already given her more fiber and laxative.
If still there is no improvement, I usually advice my patients lactulose suppository like dulcolax , half of it inserted into the anus.

This will ensure immediate passage if stools.

continue oral laxatives for 3 more days.
