Suggest Treatment For Constipation And Pain In The Rectal Area

Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: I had severe constipation that started about a week ago and felt pain in my rectum area. I finally did an anema and Mirlax and relieved the constipation about two days ago. Im still in pain in my tail bone area and also my rectal area. I went to two different doctors as well as the ER and my rectal exams and x rays are normal. I have no blood in my stools but still have pain. Is it normal to have pain in these areas after severe constipation? Thanks

Brief Answer:
It's normal;colonoscopy/fecal analysis recommended further...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your question and understood your concerns.

Constipation will cause your large bowels to get distended compressing the nearby neural plexes.

Although you have had a bowel movement, it will take time to:
- set a normal bowel movement
- get the neural plexes back to normal

If the pain and constipation would persist for a few more weeks, I advise to schedule:
- colonoscopy
- and run fecal analysis

to determine the right cause.

For the moment, I recommend to:
- continue taking stool softeners and laxatives to help bowel movements
- increase fiber/water intake; you can start fiber supplement containing psyllium
- take probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- increase physical activity
- avoid foods that would aggravate the symptoms
- take mephenamic acid for the pain

Hope it was of help!

Thank you for your answer.....because I can't stop thinking about this, I have read online this could be a sign of rectal cancer. I have three little children and I can't stop thinking that I might have cancer.

Brief Answer:
No sign for rectal cancer, colonoscopy will determine/rule it out...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

Having constipation does not necessarily mean you have cancer.

As you are reporting to be a mother of 3 wonderful children, this makes me believe that you are not consuming your meals on regular basis as you need to go up and down taking care of your children.

I strongly advise to stop getting stressed for a while and follow the above mentioned advice. I am pretty sure everything will be settled but you need to be patient and follow the advice rigorously.

Furthermore, colonoscopy will determine what problems you are having with your bowels.

All the best and God bless!
