Suggest Treatment For Constipation And Regular Bowel Movement

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Jan 2015
Question: Hi. I passed a hard stool yesterday and it seems i developed a fissure post that. The fissure is quite painful making it difficult to pass stools. I normally dont have constipation and have regular bowel movements so this seemed to be a one off event. I previously had a fissure surgery 12 years back and never had any problems thereafter so this seems to be unrelated to the previous episode and more of an acute occurrence due to passage of hard stools/constipation yesterday. Since i am travelling i am unable to consult a surgeon. Would you be able to prescribe me a stool softener (will Naturalax powder be good enough?). Also would you like to prescribe any ointment for pain relief (as of now I have taken only crocin for pain relief) ? Finally do you think i would need an antibiotic course to aid healing and prevent any infection (i remember i was prescribed Ciplox 12 years back when i had this problem). Many thanks for your assistance.

Brief Answer:
Take stool softeners, pain killers and Sitz baths.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Akshat,
Since you have had a Fissure earlier you would know all about it.
I advice you take Cremaffin syrup which can also be take along the Naturolax. Take about 10 to 15ml twice daily and apply Lignocaine ointment two to three times a day. You can take pain medicines like the one you are taking or sonething like Diclofenac sodium or Ibuprofen.
I usually advice my patients a course of antibiotics like Norfloxacin with Tinidazole or Ofloxacin with Ornidazole twice daily for five days. And yes of prime importance would be sitting in warm water baths(Sitz bath) two to three times day to sooth the spasms and will decrease the pain.
Do let me know if I can help you with any other queries that might arise.
Take care,
