Question: I have been constipated for a couple weeks now and have seen what looks like white seeds in my stool however I haven't eaten anything with seeds and also soon mucus on it I went to the doctor and she just gave me medicine to help the constipation and what she feels is just a small infection. My question is do you feel it would be some type of parasite I should get taken care of?

Brief Answer:
Stool for ova and parasite, mebendazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The whitish seed like appearance is common with pin worm infestation. A single dose of mebendazole or 3 day course would treat it. A better option would be to get a stool for ova and parasite done before initiating treatment, to confirm the diagnosis. Try to increase the amount of fiber in your food. Whole-grain bread, whole-wheat pasta , multi-grain cereals can be tried. Ispaghula husk before every meal would also help. Increase fluid intake and exercise daily for at least 30 minutes.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
