Suggest Treatment For Consumption Of Overdosed Lovenox

Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: I have been taking 120 mg of Lovenox for almost a year. However, I lost my job and can't afford to buy it. I haven't taken any shots for about a week but my husband insisted that I use the ones I have left. I just took a shot and now I'm scared I have overdosed myself since it's been a week since my last shot. Should I be worried? Do I need to go to the ER?

Brief Answer:
Better to visit ER , BE on the safer road

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
Lovenox is an enoxaparin and an anticoagulant. It is usually taken at 1 mg per kg per 12 hours so 2 mg per kg per day maximally of the body weight and no more than that. so if you used that much of 120 mg and you are minimum 60 kg or 132 pounds then it is not an over dose.
But it is good to visit an ER as adverse effects of the drug are lethal and needs a close look up at blood count and bleeding profile. If you get nausea or vomiting, headaches, palpitations, hemorrhage or some purplish blotches over the body especially around eyes , or you start bleeding from any hole then that would indicate an overdose. Take a close monitoring and visit an ER and let them decide whether it was an overdose or not..
Also you don't wanna lose the compliance to this medicines as the effects can be drastic.Talk to your doctor and let them change it with some other cost friendly anticoagulant. A constant touch with the doctor and close monitoring on bleeding profile is advised.
Take care
