Suggest Treatment For Coompulsive Lying In Children
Question: Dear Drs.
I am a parent of four children: girl 24, boy 21, girl 18, boy 16. My two boys have, for years, and continually currently, lie. We (their parents) are at our wits' end trying to deal with them and get them to tell the truth. Do you have any resources or recommendations for successfully handling consistent liars? Thank you.
I should have indicated where we are in the United States ... we live in northern NJ, and have access to NYC, Boston, etc. if there are resources in these areas. I'm not sure what else you need to know in order to answer my initial question about how to handle children/adult children who lie excessively. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
psychotherapy is a good therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking HCM,
I understand your concern. I studied your query and my suggestion is to try with psychotherapy for your two sons. For a person who is a liar, treatment success varies. It depends on how motivated the liar is to change his or her ways. So at first you should try to talk to your sons and suggest them to try with this therapy.
I researched and found a very good website which will help you o find a psychotherapist with their addresses, e-mails and phone numbers. The best would be to contact them directly. http://www.goodtherapy.org/New-York-Therapy.htm
I hope this answer was helpful to you.
