Suggest Treatment For Cough And Cold While Treating Throat Infection

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: My daughter has been having cold and cough for nearly 2 weeks now. Last Friday, she also got fevers varying between 99 F to 101.6F. We then visited the local paediatrician who gave her medications listed below for the symptoms and diagnosed her with throat infection. Yesterday her fever disappeared but then she could not keep her foot on the ground. she was complaining that her calves are paining and was limping and walking. Similar leg pain had occurred for her nearly 5 months back when she was down with viral. That time we got the dengue and chickenguniya tests done which were negative. Just wanted to check as this is the second time that she struggled to walk or keep her feet on the ground after viral infection. is this something to worry about? She again had fever today at 99 with recurrence of cold

Brief Answer:
Possibly a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. Possibly you daughter has been suffering from a viral infection. Such an infection can give rise to electrolyte imbalance which in turn can lead to muscle soreness. Taking juicy fruits like citrus fruits, and bananas should help as they contain plenty of potassium. She also needs to drink plenty of water. That should help in resolution of the problem and clear you of your worries.

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for your response. What could be the reason for the prolonged fever which has been around for 4-5 days now. currently her temperature is 99.1. will that be termed as fever?

Brief Answer:
Get a few blood tests done. Likely to be viral.

Detailed Answer:
Viral infections are the most common cause of such fevers. However, it would perhaps be a good idea to get the blood tested for complete blood count, CRP and widal test. Based on the results I would be able to suggest the cause of the fever.
