Suggest Treatment For Cough And Fever

Question: Hi, my 2 year old (27 month) son came down with mild-sounding croup last night and a 102.5 fever. Today he says he feels better but still has the cough. Last week my mother was here visiting and helping me to take care of my sons. While she was here she received results from her recent doctor visit saying that she was carrying Klebsiella Pneumonaie in her nasal passages, that it wasn't a big deal and how to treat it. I know it's a long shot, but do I have to worry that this could have caused an infection in my son, and if so do I need to worry? Thanks in advance!

Brief Answer:
It is a normal commensal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Klebsiella is a normal commensal of the nasal passages.
It may affect a seriously immunocompromised individual.
So no need to worry about your son getting affected by it.

How ever, you need to see a doctor if the croup sound increases, if the child develops severe cough, rapid breathing and difficulty in breathing and if the fever lasts for more than 3 to 4 days.

Hope I have cleared your query,

Regards.
