Suggest Treatment For Cough And Hoarse Voice While Suffering From Bronchitis
Question: Dear Doctor,
I had bronchitis that started first as a cold, then turned into a cough. The cough persisted for more than a month and slowly started to go away. It has been one month and a half since it all began and I still have a small cough - mostly at night, but noting major, and during the day I can feel when I laugh that I cough a little and can hear that sound coming from my lungs. Also my voice becomes a little horse by evening time. Is it normal that I still have a small remainder of the bronchitis and will it keep going away slowly?

Brief Answer:
A short course of antibiotics will help to resolve the infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam.
I understand your concern.
You seem to partially resolve from chronic bronchitis.
You need to have an antibiotic course for 3 days with tab Amoxyclav 625 mg one tab twice a day for 3 days.
This should resolve all the infection.
Additionally you can take Syrup Tusq D one tsp until cough subsides.
Please note these drugs have to be taken under strict medical supervision.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. However, I am concerned that taking an antibiotic is a risk because it may not even help. If it doesn't help I will be left with another problem of digestive difficulties. The small amount of coughing I still have is not enough of a bother to try to suppress it, but I am just concerned that I'm still coughing (if even a little) at this point. Will the antibiotic stop the final stages of this bronchitis? And why did you call it "chronic"? It's the first time I've had bronchitis in many many years. Thank you
Brief Answer:
Antibiotics will help to mop up residual infection.

Any cough lasting for more than 3 weeks is termed as Chronic.
Bronchitis in your case is acute, but the cough element is chronic.
