Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: My 7 month old so have very mild cough since last 18 days.
Like he cough around 4-5 times in whole day.
Initially I thought it is ok and cough will go away soon., but it did not.
Is there any cough syrup for that old child which is mild and can be recommended.

P. S. I also see a doctor at beginning but he also suggest to let it be and let child recover by his own.

Brief Answer:
Try mucolite drops and home remedies

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concern. Mild cough should ideally not be treated. As your son is only 7 months, generally cough syrups are not prescribed as your doctor has told. You can use over the counter Ambrolite drops, 5 drops two times a day.

Other home remedies you can try are:
- Nasal drops
- Steam inhalation
- warm fluids such as milk, dal water and soups if you have started home food.
- Apply lots of nilgiri (eucalyptus) oil or vicks on the bed and pillow of your son not directly on him.

I hope this answered your query.
