Brief Answer:
Gurgle with lukewarm water. Take paracetamol when required.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Widal test does not usually give conclusive results before at least 7 days of fever. So, I have doubts on the validity of the report. However, if actually positive, it would indeed indicate enteric fever or typhoid. Typhoid is a waterborne disease and so you can be infective if:
1. After defecation you do not wash your hands properly and start contaminating other people's foods
2. Your stool contaminates other people's drinking water.
Unless that happens, you need not consider yourself contagious. In any case, a treatment with appropriate antibiotics needs to be given for at least 10-14 days. Full recovery should occur with complete course of antibiotics.

You need to gurgle with lukewarm water. That is the main treatment for your sore throat.

Avoid cold temperatures.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Oral antibiotics are also effective.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for clarifying. I would need to ask you how you are currently being treated. Ceftriaxone is usually administered intravenously and that is usually done after getting the patient admitted. Since you are not admitted at present (assumingly), I would like to know how the present antibiotic is being administered. Since there are good oral antibiotics that can treat typhoid, I doubt if admission is necessary.

Please follow the suggestions given (like gurgling with lukewarm water) and you would see an improvement.

I would insist you to get a blood count done. Please share the report with me and I would guide you further.

Brief Answer:
Subsequent change over to oral medicines advisable.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks again for writing back. It is good that a blood culture has been done but a blood culture after starting antibiotics frequently yields negative results. If a positive result come up,antibiotics can be changed over to oral ones based on the sensitivity. I would insist you to take paracetamol when you have fever. I would prefer avoiding brufen. It is a gastric irritant and could give you gastritis.

For a good sleep I would suggest the following:
* After you go to bed, relax. Inhale slowly over 4 seconds (count mentally), then hold for 7 seconds, then exhale over 8 seconds. Continue to do this and you would fall asleep faster and better.

Feel free to contact me back directly if you have any further queries, now or later. I would always be there to assist you.

Prof XXXXXXX , i went to an internal medecine doctor today , dr rajeesh and she said i should continue my antibotic course of ceftriaxone for another 3 dosage , i believe that the antibiotic itself is making me more sick , last night as usual i couldn't sleep till i took paracetamol 1 tablet then i slept for 4 hours although i was not experiencing any fever , i took it to just fall asleep , and i woke up feeling better with more energy than any other day, now i got back from the hospital after having taking that antibiotic again and i feel bad, slight fever, throat pain is back, lower back and side pain and headache and neck pain. I cant find a comfortable position to lay down in, all my body aches , so i have to believe that is the medecine , yet the doctors here doesn't want me to stop taking it! Tomorrow i am supposed to do anothet blood test . When i told my doctor today my ears keeps puping like there is a change of pressure around me and that i am disoriented all the time , she told me you are stressed and thinking too much that is all ! She doesn't want to do further inverstigation at that point, what do you suggest ?

Brief Answer:
Follow your doctor's advice.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks again for writing back. Sorry for not being able to respond faster.

I think that your doctor is correct and you should follow his advice. Wait for the blood culture reports and further interventions can be planned accordingly.
