Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Lyrica (with the active ingredient pregabalin) is used for various types of pain, and so it would be important to know the source of your pain (e.g. due to diabetes, fibromyalgia, etc.) The main aim of pregabalin is to promote pain relief along with other medications that help normalise/regularise the condition to a certain extent.
For example if pregabalin were prescribed in your case for diabetes related pain, then it should have been prescribed with other medications like insulin therapy or oral hypoglycaemia drugs. So please speak to your doctor to help address the condition directly. If at all, the pain (as described) was present even before the prescription then there could be a few things going wrong here.
1. To be taken as prescribed: Pregabalin is usually prescribed to be taken 2-3 times a day, and is strictly advised to be taken at equal intervals. The reason why this is advised is so we can help maintain constant levels of pregabalin in the system, to allow it to always mask the pain. So please make sure you are following this regimen. It might take some time to start taking effect, so please be patient
2. Dosage might not be enough; please speak to your doctor about the pain still persisting and either request for a larger dosage (starting by taking it three times a day) or a substitute
Please also write to me about the diagnosis made, and why only pregabalin was prescribed. I would be more than happy to assist and guide you further. Please also write to me about any specific queries you have. I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
