Suggest Treatment For Cut In Genital Area And Redness Inside Urethra

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, I have had a slight cut that happened when I was inspecting my genital area. It happened about little over a month ago. It gets irritated from time to time. I worried it could be something more serious and am scared. No burning, itchyness, or pain, no flu like symptoms, just gets red inside the urethra canal at where the scratch is. I am worried it could be something more serious. Please help.

Sexual activity FYI sexual encounter unprotected two months ago once with a female that claims to be std free. Other than that nothing

Brief Answer:
No does not appear to be STD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

According to me as you said you had a cut which was irritated there is nothing to worry about. You must keep your genitals clean and dry. You can apply triple action cream such as surfaz SN locally twice daily. If you had unprotected intercourse then I suggest you can take HIV test to relieve yourself from stress. HIV PCR test can be done after6-7 weeks and highly sensitive. 4 th generation ELISA test can be done after12 weeks and is highly sensitive and conclusive. Don't worry as you have no such symptoms. I recommend the tests to allay fears and concerns you have.

Take care.

Thanks you doctor. I took two additional photos. Please review and advise as necessary. I'm not sure if it will change your opinion of not. One question I have since the redness inflammation is on the inside of the ureathra passage how do I promote healing? It doesn't look to be hsv2 right? Like I said no other symptoms. And it's been like this for some time. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Topical cream will be beneficial.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I suggest you that must apply the topical ointment as I advised even on inner urethra. If there is no improvement after a week then you must take urethral swab for gram staining and culture sensitivity for bacterial infections and oral antibiotics. No it doesn't look like herpes infection. Take other investigations as I advised earlier. Keep genitals clean and dry. Do not touch it frequently.

Bacterial infections? Since it's been a month or so , shouldn't had it disappeared? What type of bacterial infections would cause this? Thank

Brief Answer:
Bacterial infection is superimposed.

Detailed Answer:
Well come

I would like to tell you that sometimes there is superimposition of bacterial infection on cuts and allergic areas. In that case it is not primary but secondary cause. Due to cut and frequently touching of area bacterial infection can occur though less likely. Therefore I advised you to take investigations to rule this out. It could be any bacterial infection mostly due to gram positive bacteria. As you had unprotected intercourse so I also suggest you to take tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea infection by PCR and HIV test also. Avoid sex till healing.

Hi there, I have one more follow up question. I experienced a slight burn when I urinated this morning. It's the first time this has happened, I did have alcohole last night not sure if the urine was just acidic or something. I did see urgent care doctor and got tested for chlamydia yesterday and he inspected the area and didn't see any lesions or anything that he thought would be a concern. I has been 10 weeks since my unprotected sex took place, and about 3 weeks since we last had protected sex but unprotected oral. Should I just see what the results area like? Could there be an active lesion down my urethra. I mean it's been 10 weeks. Thanks for your help and knowledge on these subjects

Brief Answer:
Seems like urethritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Well come back.

It seems that you are having urinary tract infection such as urethritis which caused burning during micturition. I suggest that you must await for your STD results for chlamydia and gonorrhea. In the meanwhile I suggest you to get urine examination done. You must take early morning initial stream sample of urine for 3 consecutive days and get tested for routine microscopy and culture sensitivity for aerobic and anaerobic infection.Based on the results you will need to start antibiotics for urinary tract infections. Also get blood urea and creatinine done. You must also get ultrasound of pelvis and abdomen to rule out any organic pathology. Drink plenty of water and juices.

Take care
