Suggest Treatment For Cystic Acne

Question: I have had recurring Staph infections on my face. I have been to a GP, Dermatogist & an ID Dr. I have been on many antibiotics starting with Zithromax, Bactrim, a bunch of others I forget, then heavier duty ones including tetracycline, doxycycline & cephalosporin. They never were able to culture anything from my face, but I asked for a nasal swab which came out positive for a drug resistant Staph. They tailored the antibiotics around the test results but with no real results. The only thing that seems to have worked was the topical mupirocin & silver sulfadiazine cream. When my skin heals I have bumps still under my skin which the Drs say are dead skin cells. These bumps are large and burst open like pimples, but they don't stop weeping blood, unless I drain them. When I drain them they are bright red blood with stringy clot like masses in them. Then I'm back on the topicals. The silver tends to get healed under the scab, so I don't like to use it often. This has been years & the Dermatologist said I must be picking my skin because he saw it when the bumps were just bumps & then next when I was full of scabs. They're leaving scars now, and I'm having to stay away from people when I have outbreaks for fear of infecting them. Is there a kind of Dr that would be more helpful. I also sometimes have pain in my nostrils & I'm coughing. I smoke. I quit for 19 years & with my divorce picked it up for the last 4. So I'm not sure if that's related.

Cystic acne

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query,
You might be suffering from cystic acne.
Use of many antibiotics can also lead to resistance and lead to persistent infection.
Can you please upload a photograph of the lesions on your face? This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and a better line of management. There is an option to upload photos on right side of query page. Please utilize it.
Waiting for your response.

Hello
Thanks for the photographs.
Indeed it is looking like a bacterial infection.
As you have mentioned you have resistant staph infection an older antibiotic might be beneficial for you.
I usually prescribe capsule Rifampicin and have seen excellent results with that.
Please meet your treating doctor and discuss regarding this.
