Suggest Treatment For Cysts On Ovaries After Hysterectomy
Yes, cyst may be formed after hysterectomy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:
1) In general, hysterectomy DOESN'T directly cause ovarian cysts, but it has some indirect relation.
Following hysterectomy, a functional ovarian cyst forms on the surface of an ovary during each monthly cycle. At the time of ovulation, the cyst opens and releases the matured egg. If the cyst DOESN'T open to release the egg, it can fill with fluid forming a follicular cyst.
A corpus luteum cyst may be formed if the egg has been released but the cyst closes again. It contains a small amount of blood.
2) For some women, hysterectomy may be stimulus to regenerate ovarian cyst due to following reasons.
a) Interruption of blood supply to ovary during hysterectomy, which can cause the ovaries to malfunction and create hormonal imbalance and more cysts.
b) Using hormonal treatment prior to hysterectomy that stopped ovulation, this could have stopped the cysts from forming as well.
When those hormonal treatments are discontinued following hysterectomy, the ovaries should return to their normal cycle of ovulation and form functional cysts (pain less).
3) Most cysts are harmless and resolve by their own, but some cause symptoms and pain. In that case, you may require medical or surgical intervention.
Your ovarian cyst size is very small (19 mm) and it can be treated medically. I suggest you to consult with your gynecologist for complete prescription.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Hello,
Thanks for follow up query.
1) Yes, it is MOSTLY suggestive of Poly Cystic Ovary (as per ultrasound scan). Initially, hormonal treatment can be started with painkiller to reduce abdominal pain and discomfort.
Alternate hot bag or ice-pack compression will also be useful. Conservative T/t can be tried at this stage.
2) If abdominal or cystic pain becomes more severe and persists continuously, then Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (Surgical) can be done to eliminate ovarian cyst and its related complication. Kindly, consult with your treating doctor.
Hope, I have answered your queries. Kindly, close the discussion.
All the best and good luck.
