Suggest Treatment For Dark Pigmentation After Use Of Medication For Vertiligo
I am suffering from vertiligo for quite long and tried a lot of topical solution and now I switch to melanocyl solution and exposed myself in the sun like 2 min. for 3 days and after that I saw my skin changed the color to deep red and also it was very titchy and now it is 5th day that I stopped using the solution and going out in the sun but dont think there is any change in color or itchiness.
My question to you is that how many days it will take to come completely to its normal skin color and the vertigo will still persist.
The dark color still persist but the skin became dry and slowly the dry skin is coming out .What to do feeling very scared and upset.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read your query and understand the concern.
It might take 2 to 3 months to get cured from vitilligo completely but the response is mainly depends on the body area affected from vitiligo.
Melanocyl lotion or solution can be used either as a diluted solution or neat depending on the advice of your dermatologist.
Local application at the site of vitiligo patches should be followed sun exposure after 30 min for 1-5 min initially.
The goal is to attain a faint pinkish erythema which is considered adequate sun exposure.
If you experience deep erthema or pain, blisters etc the drug should be immediately stopped and you should immediately see your dermatologist.
The dry or thin peeling skin could be skin atrophy which is actually a side effect of this topical drug and steroids.
So,kindly consult nearby dermatologist for complete examination and further treatment.
Regards,
This is XXXX here for the follow up this is true that peeling of my skin is due to side effect of the medicine but my question to you is because I didn't consult to the doctor before using the medicine and used it without diluting it straight to the effected areas and exposed to the sun this resulted in itchiness ,dry, burning sensation, redness and peeling of the skin then immediately stopped applying and going to the sun.It has been like more then a week and the color is still too dark I am scared that the color of my skin is not going to become as it was before or it will stay like this forever.
Please give some advice which will heel my problem.
Thanks XXXXX
Corticosteroid will be good.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the follow-up.
First of all, discontinue using melanocyl lotion.
In a your case , I would generally start oral steroids like betamethasone.
As far as creams are concerned, you will benefit from using a mid potent steroid (like Mometasone) or more potent (clobetasol) but the choice of steroid would be decided by careful inspection at darker area.
This steroids has to be taken under the supervision of a dermatologist and monitored for side effects.
You will also need oral antioxidants taken once a day after meal.
You could look for capsule containing beta carotene 30 mg, zinc sulphate monohydrate 27.5 mg, monohydrated selenium dioxide 0.2 mg, manganese 2 mg, copper 1 mg.
In most cases, steroid use will get your skin to normal. You need not be worried.
Consult dermatologist for complete prescription.
