Suggest Treatment For Dehydration And Swollen Nodules On The Calf

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Can feel several nodules under skin of left calf. Achilles tendon was completely severed 50 years ago & had stainless steel threads put in to repair (in wheelchair for over one year). 2 months ago I suffered EXTREME (almost killed me) dehydration from allergic reaction from antibiotic z-pack. Lost 12 pounds of water weight in 3 days. Took 2 1/2 months to recover & be able to step on my legs again without excrutiating pain. No more pain. Both legs looked like tree trunks from the knees to my toes for a month. Right leg completely back to normal, left calf still gets very swollen & hard by end of day but no pain. Any ideas?

the antibiotic was given to me because my tonsils were inflamed.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to scar tissue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The feeling of several nodules and swelling can be due to the dehydration that you suffered or due to the fibrosis and scar tissue formed at various places. The best way to educe the swelling is to continue with compression stockings and keep the legs elevated on two pillows while resting.
Since there is no pain any deep vein thrombosis is not likely. Do reduce your salt intake and in case the nodule like feeling is persistent then do consult your orthopedician for a physical examination.
I hope this answers your query.
