Suggest Treatment For Delayed Fetal Development
Question: Today, I had my first ultrasound scan and according to the scan i am 6 weeks 4 days pregnant which I thought i was 7 weeks 4 days. I am not really sure what does faint fetal pole means? I have researched online and mostly its no fetal pole or no yolk sac but no faint fetal pole. My Doctor says that its late conception and I should wait for 15 days for next ultrasound. Is this normal at 6 weeks having faint fetal pole?
Brief Answer:
Abdominal or transvaginal ultrasound
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Sometimes, it is a delayed conception , therefore the fetal pole and cardiac activity appears a bit delayed.

Abdominal
Brief Answer:
Transvaginal ultrasound should be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Sometimes, due to abdominal fat, the resolution of ultrasound is not good.
In such situations, one should get a transvaginal ultrasound done to confirm the fetal pole and cardiac activity.

Ya, i am little overweight! So with late conception are there any issues or problems with the pregnancy? I am due for an ultrasound in week 8 (Feb 2). As said on my report it said that I have faint fetal pole that means its still developing and it should be visible by week 8??
Brief Answer:
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
There is no problem in pregnancy with delayed conception.
Yes, it is highly likely that the fetal pole will be clearly visible in next2 weeks.
I suggest you not to worry, and start taking folic acid tablet daily as taking it in early pregnancy reduces the risk of congenital anomalies in the fetus.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hi, thank you for all the answers. I have another question regarding constipation during pregnancy. Is dulcolax or sodium picosulfate safe during pregnancy ? What are others options?
Brief Answer:
Plenty of fluids and fibre rich diet
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Constipation is common in pregnancy.
Dulcolax and sodium picosulfate are not recommended during pregnancy.
You should have fibre rich diet, drink plenty of fluids and can take isaphgula husk if the constipation is not relieved by previous measures.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
