Suggest Treatment For Depression, Irritation And Excessive Crying In A 14 Year Old
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi
A girl, aged 14-15 yrs., is so depressed that her behavior has been completely changed. She is crying now-n-then, she is not giving reply properly, she is murmuring instead of telling something while she was very much talkative, smile of her face has just been like vanished while she used to even lough loudly on any jokes, sometimes she is talking like a very matured person, sometimes she is getting irritated on others, and so on.
I just want to ask that, is it a mental disorder? if it is, then what kind of disorder is this? and how can she over come this kind of pathetic situation?
Please answer soon. It's very urgent.
Thank You.

Brief Answer:
probable depression; psychiatric evaluation needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concerns.
Crying every now and then, not giving proper replies, murmuring, getting easily irritated in a previously lively person are probably symptoms of depression.
However, a detailed mental status examination by a psychiatrist would be needed to determine exact disorder.
A proper diagnosis would guide further treatment. If depression is diagnosed, antidepressant drugs like escitalopram (prescription drug) would be needed.
Kindly consult a nearest psychiatrist.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.
