Suggest Treatment For Depression While Suffering From Dengue Fever
Question: Hi Doctor, my wife (Age:31)was suffered from dengue fever and during the period she has got some kind of depression/fear/worry and start speaking irreverently. This was happened when she was hospitalized and under the treatment of dengue fever. Doctors suggested for MRI which is done and the report says "subtle hyperintensity in splenium of corpus callosum, small cystic area in right side of pitutary gland. right sphenoid sinusitis". She was again under treatment for this problem and after 15 days we took MRI and found that she is normal. But the depression/fear/worry and start speaking irreverently is still continuing. I would need your valued advice that, how long it's take to recover, now she is under the treatment of a psychiatrist
Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised and continue psychiatrist consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Dengue fever related brain dysfunction leads to encephalopathy or irrelevant behaviour. Associated electrolytes imbalance may also lead to such symptoms.
You need to give her adequate fluid, fresh fruit and good sleep.
Some medication for depression or behavioural abnormalities can be used like olanzapine, amitryptiline, nortryptiline, sertraline, mirtazipine.
You should continue consultation with psychiatrist as it will help in early recovery.
She will be fine in few weeks.
Wishing her good health and early recovery.
