Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: Hi I have seen an ENT specialist and after checkup, he said he noticed my epiglottis and larynx and other structured that had deviated from within my throat. This has been very difficult for me, I wonder is this a very rare case? He doesn't recommend surgery and we're hoping it will go back to the normal position in a 2-6 months, using heartburn medications for acid and postnasal drip. Please help me, thanks so much. It's very uncomfortable. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
There doesn't seem to be any major issue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Atleast after ENT specialist's checkup you have a diagnosis now, epiglossitis usually doesn't require any surgery it is just an irritation and inflammation of epiglottis and it is expected to get better with time.

Here I would suggest you to take medications regularly , don't use food which might irritate throat and same goes with speaking loud.

This might take 3..6 months to get back to normal as your docotor mentioned as well. It is a gradual process and you will recover with natural course of events.

I will hereby suggest you to take good care of yourself and don't be much anxious. Things are expected to get better with time.

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.

Brief Answer:
Deviation is a common finding if pharynx muscles get weak somehow.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for writing back,

This can happen in some situations... uvula and other internal structures of body are maintained at their places by muscles, these muscles when get weakened up can cause structures to deviate, this weakness can be controlled if cause if weakness is corrected usually simple medication is needed for this,

You are taking medication and your doctor hopes it will get fine , i would suggest you to stay calm and follow the treatment strategy suggested by your doctor to get better results.

I can well understand that this would have been difficult for you to coup up with your symptoms but I will advice you to be patient with time as your muscles and structures gain strength things are expected to work just fine. Avoid everything which makes things worse for you. So that the deviation doesn't get any more severe.

Best regards.
