Suggest Treatment For Diabetes And Metallic Taste In Mouth

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Feb 2017
Question: My wife is experiencing a metallic, off-taste that has kept her from being able to eat more than a few bites of food. She has Type II Diabetes, and wonders if there might be a connection. She also recently suffered from a severe kidney infection (and stone), and recent blood tests show the possibility of the infection returning.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello ! Thank you for using Health Care Magic.
I have gone through your question and I understand your concern.
Yes could be a sign of complications of diabetes ( (uncontrolled )or a side effect of the medications she takes .
Check her blood sugar if it's very high indicate a complication of diabetes and need to go to the hospital .
I checked all the medications she takes and the ones who could be responsible for a metallic taste are:
-Lithium (I think more about lithium cause of the interaction between lithium and chlorthalidone, trazodone, trospium by incresing the risk of the side effect of lithium)
-Lisinopril
-Metformin usually when you start after that the taste goes away (you did not write for how long has she been taking this med)

In diabetes the infection is hard to go away compare to non diabetic patient.

In her case I would suggest to go to the local doctor to check the blood sugar, kithat function (Urine test and blood test), physical examinations and to adjuct (changes ) the medications at takes.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if you have any other clarifications , I will be happy to help.
Take Care !
