Brief Answer:
You must increase your metformin dosage

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to healthcare magic.

Both your fasting blood sugar and your postprandial blood sugar levels are high.
Blood sugar control is a must for preventing you from stroke and myocardial infarction. Person with good glycemic control has less diabetic related complications.

I recommend you to have
1. Regular timely meals with less sugar content avoid having snacks in between.
2. The next and very important thing is to have regular exercises.
3. Go for swimming, cycling and get engaged in a sport activity regularly
4. Your metformin once daily dosage has to be increased to twice daily morning and afternoon.
5. Check your HbA1c levels. It indicates your blood sugar levels over a period of 3-4 months
review with your HbA1c results. After two weeks of taking metformin twice daily review with your fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels.
6. I recommend my diabetic patients to maintain a blood sugar chart. which includes date, fasting blood sugar, post prandial blood sugar, drugs and HbA1c levels and to produce it to me in every visits.

Hope these information finds useful to you. Feel free to ask any more questions to me

Thanks a lot for the recommendations. Yes, I do have a chart for fasting and PP. My HbA1C value as checked; from last one year every 3 months is 6.3 Mar-14, June-14 6.1, Sept-14 6.1.

Brief Answer:
your HbA1c levels are good

Detailed Answer:
Though your fasting and post prandial sugar were not satisfactory your HbA1c levels are well maintained
This shows that though there are fluctuations in the blood sugar values day to day, over all the average blood sugar for three months is fine.
Now with this good maintenance of blood HbA1 c values there is no need to even think of changing your antidiabetic drug
As your fasting and postprandial blood sugar is increased now as per my recommendation Metformin can be taken twice daily instead of once daily. Discuss about this your doctor.
This small change in the prescription will take care of your blood sugar levels now.
Hope this explains in detail.
