Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea In A Child

Question: HI,
My baby is 5 1/2 months old and was just diagnosed with c-diff . She had runny, stinky diarrhea a week after coming home from the hospital that lasted for 2 months straight. Didn't do good on breastmilk so she is currently on similac alimentum for a suspected milk intolerance. Anyways she does and always had some mucus and a tinge of blood in her stool on and off. The doctor prescribed her metronidazole benz 250mg/5ml 4 times a day. I just wanted to know if the daily dosage is ok because everywhere I look it says 3 times a day for child and not a baby?

Brief Answer:
Metronidazole
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
I agree with you. Metronidazole is typically given in 3 daily doses. 250 x 4 sounds high for a 5 1/2 month old baby. I recommend giving 3 doses per day. But you should also contact the prescribing physician to double check.

Thank you so much for answering so promptly. I left out a vital piece of information. The syringe is 1ml and I am to give her a total dosage of 4 MLS a day. (So 1ml 4x a day). Does this still seem high?
