Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea Inspite Of Travelling A Lot
Question: My mom has been travelling since a week and is back home yesterday. Since yesterday she's having diarrhoea. Although she has taken Lomotil the frequency of motions has just reduced a bit. Could you suggest any medication?
Please note she is using: Atorvastatin 20 mg, and Prolomet XL 25 for her cholesterol problems.

We need to see that the diarrhea is infective or non infective. Because treatment is different for both.
So, answer the following:
1. Frequency of loose stools?
2. Color of stools?
3. Any blood or mucous mixed?
4. Small bouts of diarrhea or large bouts (that is voluminous or not)
5. Any pain abdomen?
6. Any fever associated?

It seems to be Non Infective.
In such conditions I advice following:
1. A probiotic and prebiotic like Lactovit/Sporolac/Vizylac once a day.
2. Oral Rehydration Solution 1 XXXXXXX to be dissolved in 1 litre water and at least 3-4 sachets to be used in a day to maintain hydration.
3. A combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone once a day.
In case diarrhea frequency increases or pain abdomen is there , then I use an antibiotic combination like Ciplox-TZ twice a day for 5 days.
Also I advise you to get her blood pressure checked.
This is my best opinion for you.
