Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea With Mucus And Spina Bifida
Question: My husband has been having a bowel problem off and on for a couple of weeks, He is 72 and has Spina Bifida but is XXXXXXX His stools have been kind of watery, but mucousy. He is not lactose intolerant and has had a colonoscopy last year with no problems.

You are reporting that your husband has diarrhea with mucous of and on for a couple of weeks.
To my opinion since he has diarrhea with mucous he needs to be evaluated with :
- fecal culture exam
- fecal test for candida overgrowth, ova and parasites
- abdominal ultrasound
- blood work.
to rule out bowel infection and pancreatic issues.
If the results of these exams come back normal than the most probable cause of his symptoms is IBS( irritable bowel syndrome).
Meantime I suggest to :
- use plenty of water
- use fresh fruits juice
- use probiotics
- avoid fatty and sugar foods
- avoid alcohol
- avoid unnecessary stress
