Question: YYYY@YYYY
About my wife. She's had a cold for about ten days, contracted on one of several recent airplane trips, but yesterday it took a turn for the worse. Serious mucous production, some sneezing, heavy coughing with difficulty breathing, but nothing comes up when she coughs. She says she's too weak to go to the clinic or emergency room. Is there anything we can do to alleviate the cough so she can sleep?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotic treatment seems necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

As it lasts for 10 days without an improvement, bacterial infection is very probable. If so, antibiotic treatment should be started as soon as possible.
Inhaler with Formeterole and Steroid can give some relief. But she should not stay at home and wait.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
