Brief Answer:
Yes, X-ray should be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
X-ray is a good idea. Fracture is possible with any injury. And it is impossible to determine if its a fracture or just soft tissues compression without this test.
Your pain can be caused by some blood collection in soft tissues as well (hematoma). Small hematoma does not need any action. However if its large enough, should be drained. Otherwise it can get infected and turn into an abscess.
So please consult your doctor. X-ray should be done and soft tissues ultrasound.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I was wondering is it to late for x ray
Brief Answer:
No, its not too late for an x-ray.

And sorry I should have mentioned would bruising or haematoma cause me to have sharp pain when getting in and out of bed and the car or stepping on a stairs
Brief Answer:
Yes, hematoma can cause sharp pain when moving.
Detailed Answer:
Yes, especially if the hematoma is located between muscles. Inflammation irritates muscles and can give pain when moving as well. So this is possible.
