Suggest Treatment For Discomfort Feeling While Urinating

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: I have seen an urologist for nearly two years and just had laser surgery on my enlarged prostate which was successfully done six months ago. I just had a CT abdomen and everything was unremarkable which my urologist saw last week. Now I am on toviaz 4 mg which I believe was given so it would reduce my prickly feeling after I urinate. Sometimes the discomfort will last for hours. He tried 8 mg using the toviaz but it was too strong for me. I completely empty out and my urine tests always come out negative. What else can be done to get rid of my discomfort (prickly feeling after I urinate)? It is so frustrating!!!

Brief Answer:
It may be from mild prostatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I understand your frustration.
Toviaz is a medicine meant for hyperactive bladder which occurs when you have a prostatic obstruction. Now that you've had prostatectomy, it is not required unless you have urgency . You could try stopping it and see if it improves the symptom. If it doesn't, you could have a uroflowmetry study or a therapeutic trial with an alfa blocker.
Best wishes,
Dr Noble Zachariah
