Question: What can I eat to heal this condition, or do I really need surgery to correct this condition. I have had an upper and lower colon scope and they found that I have diverticulosis. What does that mean?

Brief Answer:
This means infection in intestinal pouches.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
I've gone through your details and I appreciate your concerns.

Diverticula are small, bulging pouches that can form in the lining of your digestive system. They are found most often in the lower part of the large intestine (colon). Sometimes, however, one or more of the pouches become inflamed or infected. That condition is known as diverticulitis.

For acute phase of your diverticulitis antibiotic therapy is required but once the acute phase settles down Severe and drastic lifestyle modificatory changes have to be followed by the patient for many months to avoid recurrent attacks. Medicines can only help to some extent, but can't cure completely. So please go through the advises thoroughly.

Not exercising enough, not drinking enough water and delaying a bowel movement can worsen your symptoms. The most important factor in curing you is strict adherence to the natural and simple diet.

This should consist of unrefined food such as whole grain cereals, XXXXXXX honey, and lentils; green leafy vegetables, like spinach, beans, lettuce, celery, asparagus, carrot. Adding some fat to meals or increasing the size of a meal such as breakfast can be helpful. Individuals suffering from diverticulitis should increase the number of plant foods they consume to get more fiber in their diet.

I would suggest you to keep taking a good probiotic like Econorm thrice daily for few months. Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for digestion. As your gut flora will improve constipation would be relieved and well formed and digested stools will pass.

Please let me know--
Your diet plan?(food habits).
Do you take junk foods?
Any history of hard or tight stools?
Any feeling of incomplete evacuation?
Any smoking and alcohol habits?
How much water do you drink in a day?

As of now,
Take Clindamycin 300 mg twice daily.
Tab Metronidazole 400 mg thrice daily.
Cap VSL#3 twice daily.
Take a 5 days course.
You may need to obtain a prescription from your local physician for these.

Regards
