Question: I was diagnosed with a left parietal scalp hematoma after a fall on my head on Saturday. I am dizzy when trying to sleep lying straight back but when i elevate my head the dizziness disappears after approx 5 seconds. Do you know how long it will take for the dizziness to go away and if i am able to work, watch tv and go to the gym but not doing anything to strenuous?

Brief Answer:
You should feel better in two weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Sorry to know about your fall and hope there isnt much discomfort at the moment.

The CT scan was important ans it confirms a slight swelling on the head which is due to bleeding below the skin.

The brain is normal on the scan and excludes any structural injury. You might have had a concussion, mildest form of brain injury. Concussions usually do not manifest into anything serious, however subtle symptoms like brain fog or dizziness may persist for days to weeks. This happens due to minor injury to nerves and is not visible on imaging.

As your CT scan is normal, there is no restriction to doing work, watching TV and going to gym but please do not involve yourself in heavy physical activity for about 15 days. Your dizziness should get better in two weeks time.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Hi, thank you for your response

I am now having issues opening my mouth wide and it hurts to chew. If i press between my earlobe and jaw its painfull. Would this be part of the concusion or another issue altogether. I just took an anti inflamitory and it doesnt seem like it is working. I am still dizzy if i ly my head strait down without any pillow behind it. I am starting to get a little worried that this issue is causing the dizziness as well. Even after my fall, i could not open my mouth wide without pain
I also had some ear pain today after doing a light workout at the gym. The pain started in my left ear and then my right ear followed.

Brief Answer:
There might be a temporo mandibular joint problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

As you have mentioned that you were unable to open your mouth widely after the fall, I suspect there might be a temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) related problem.

There are two matching temporomandibular joints on each side of your head. They are located just in front of your ears. Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ disorders) are problems that affect the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull.

There might be a may need to see more than one medical specialist for your TMJ pain and symptoms, including the primary care provider, a dentist, or an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
TMJ problems can cause dizziness

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Dizziness can be caused by temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) problems. I suggest you get examined in detail by your doctor if your symptoms are persisting. The concussion will resolve by itself in a few days.

Hope your query is answered.
