Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough And Sudden Irritation In Throat

Question: good afternoon sir/madam
my father is having dry cough for almost 4 weeks now..he says a sudden irritation occurs in the throat before he starts coughing..also since 3-4 days now a thin layer of bulgum appears in his throat after coughing...he is not suffering from any other symptoms like fever or pain in chest etc....

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Dry cough for about a month usually is allergic in nature. Use of a mucolytic helps in solving the problem. A bronchodilator can be added if the chest on auscultation is showing some wheezing. Use of syrups for dry cough usually contain dextromethorphan which usually does not help in such cases.

Use of a proton pump inhibitor along with also helps as reflux is many a times an associated cause.

Some phlegm which is coming far last few days can be because of some supper added infection. If this is increasing or some fever appears, you may need to use some antibiotic.

So, a sugar free syrup like Deletus P (sugar free) 10ml thrice daily along with Cap Ocid 20 mg twice daily helps. Do take steam inhalation along with this.

If symptoms persist, do consult a physician as chest Xray may be required.

thanks a lot for your reply sir. also sir, i wanted to know in which case the above listed medicine i.e,cap ocid is used? also sir my father has a bad history with medicines...so is the above listed medicine safe to take..?

Thanks for the reply sir..but deletus p is not available herevin XXXXXXX . tried to search for similar composition, but still not able to find any..sir plz prescribe some other syrup ..thanx
