Brief Answer:
Most probably cradle crap

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your kid most probably has cradle crap, medically speaking scalp seborrheic dermatitis. Although the cause of this is not known for person to person. There is a fungus (malesezzia sp.) that grows in the sebum which is secreted from sebaceous glands in the scalp. The number of such glands is genetic and the amount of sebum is also because of hormonal activity. However very less is understood about the exact factors.

Do not worry if this is cradle crap it is self limiting and it should go off by due care of the scalp. Since there are scales they have to be washed off everyday shampooing the scalp. Just the hygiene should be sufficient to see the result in a month or two. If it does not help you may need an antifungal shampoo as well to clear of the infection.

I would be happy to address other queries that you may have further.
