Suggest Treatment For Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding
Question: I have just had my 54th birthday. In April 2013 I stopped taking cerezette beause I thought Id probably gone through the menopause, luckily without symptoms. I had a couple of months staining and spotting at period time and then it ceased completely. But in July 2013 I suddenly started to get such severe hot flushes they made me nearly pass out. I took 3 months of HRT which stopped them after a week or so. In July this year they came back with a vengeance and then suddenly I had a full blown, very heavy, painful period that lasted 10 days. Exactly 28 days later I started with another painful period but this was a light, dark brown discharge that unfortunately has carried on for around 7 weeks and I think is getting heavier. I had an ultrasound which revealed a thickened womb lining and Im awaiting the results of a biopsy. My question is, if the test comes back clear would it help stop the bleeding and flashes if I just start taking Cerezette again? This pill changed my life, setting me free from miserable, painful heavy periods and I suspect got me through a lot of menopause symptoms. I am due to leave the country in 2 weeks for a month. Obviously if i have cancer this wont happen but if the tests are clear then i have to stop this disgusting discharge and dibilitating hot flashes. Although Im told ill have my results within 2 weeks, if its good news then there wont be time to see a doctor before I leave. The thought of suffering these symptoms away from home and in 90 degree heat isnt something im looking forward to. Help!
Brief Answer:
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB)
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
First, I would like to clear that the chances of the biopsy turning positive to cancer is very unlikely. You have been taking Cerezette which is a progestrone only pill, since it does not contain estrogen the chances of cancer are still low.
I suspect your problems to be due to DUB which is very common and can be manged well with cerezette with or without HRT.
If the condition is too severe and you have completed your family then hysterectomy could be a option.
Consult you gynecologist and discuss the same.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
