Suggest Treatment For Ear Ache And Sore Scalp

Doctor said my ears were blocked badly with wax and my ears would need syringing. I mentioned i have had operations on ears and have s gromit in one ear and perforated other ear.
Dr said couldnt see gromit or if there was an infection. She booked me in for ear syringing with nurse. Today i had the appointment with the nurse a week later and before she started i also mentioned again about my gromit and perforations. She said she couldnt see because of wax so checked my records and it said what i was saying so she then said she coukd not syringe with water i would have to see a specialist to have them suctioned. It could be weeks or months.
The problem is i am concerned as my dr told me to use olive oil in the week leading up to the appointment but i have googled and it seems i shouldnt use olive oil in ear but i already have.
I suffer from tinitius and its louder now and im in discomfort shoukd i just do nothing or should I see dr again?
Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
It is true that removing the ear wax through syringing (lavage) is contraindicated in perforated eardrums and when a grommet is present .This because ,the water can enter in middle ear and cause infections.
Considering your conditions (perforated eardrum and grommet present) you shouldn't have used wax softeners including olive oil.
Despite this, since your ears were blocked badly with wax ,it is unlikely that the olive oil has entered middle ear.
The olive oil you have used most likely was totally absorbed by the wax masses.
Your doctor will use another technique except ear lavage to remove the wax like suction.
For now it doesn't seem to be of concern. If a small amount of olive oil has entered middle ear ,it can be the cause of increased tinnitus.
Ear wax also causes tinnitus. For now there is not much to do,apart keeping it on observation.
If you start having earaches , discharge from ears, dizziness or if tinnitus get worse you should consult a physician right away.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
