Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection And Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Apr 2015
Question: This just started within the past 4-5 years, but whenever I wear my glasses I get a major pain in one of my ears (it varies which one every time). I feel like I have a horrible ear infection along with the pain going into my jaw line. This happens within 2 hours of wearing my glasses. We have tried different weights of glasses & bending the arms straight as opposed to curving behind my ear, but nothing has worked yet.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be neuralgia.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having ear infection secondary to spectacles. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any ear discharge or ear blockage ?
Is there any associated head- ache or throat pain ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be neuralgia or local inflammation (where spectacle frame sits).

Ear pain after 2 hours of wearing spectacles denotes neuralgia secondary to nerve compression or local irritation causing inflammation.

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and give detaild history (neuralgia),detailed ent examination. Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

It isn't an actually ear infection, it just feels like one.

I don't understand how it could be anything due to nerve compression when I have EXTREMELY light weight glasses frames

Brief Answer:
Needs naked eye examination.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Looks like metal or platic frame compressing the nerve endings of auricle. Ear pain can radiated to lower jaw. It can be evaluated with naked eye examination.

Kindly go ahead for the evaluation. Meantime, keep cotton swab between skin contact and spectacle frame.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
