Brief Answer:
appears to be an infection

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, it does appear to be an infection though it is unusual for an infection to develop in both ears at the same time.
The other cause of inflammation of the ear would be dermatitis due to allergic reaction or contact with an irritant.

You can consider the use of an anti inflammatory medication such as naproxen or ibuprofen, to help with the pain and swelling.

The area can be cleaned with dilute hydrogen peroxide or normal saline at least twice daily and a topical antibiotic applied if needed.

If there is any worsening or no improvement then it would be best to see your doctor for an assessment

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
different types of infection

Detailed Answer:
HI

There are different types of infections: viral, fungal, bacterial and parasitic (parasites)

Parasitic and fungal infections are not likely, viral infections also not as likely

the most likely infection would be a bacterial skin infection. There are bacteria that live normally on the skin, these can sometimes be introduced under the skin by even mild trauma

Brief Answer:
can use an alternative

Detailed Answer:
HI

Ibuprofen was mentioned to help with pain and swelling but if you cannot use this, naproxen was also mentioned

If naproxen also causes problems for you then you can another NSAID such as cataflam or use tylenol

The other aspects of treatment mentioned can also be done as well.
