Brief Answer:
ear infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Your daughter is most probabaly having ear infcetion.
It is very common in children of her age group.
Do not worry.
You can give her a pain killer like paracetamol after checking her dosage. If you are not sure about her dose then tell me her weight and i will calculate her dose.
Infections of the ear usually are viral in nature and usually settle on their own.
She needs to be seen by a doctor either an ENT specialist or a paediatrician.
The ear drum has to be monitored for 2- 3 days by either one of the 2 doctors i mentioned above in order to decide whether she needs an antibiotic.
If the infection persists for more than 4 days then she may need a course of antibiotics preferably of the penicillin group.
You can start her on decongestanat nose drops like otrivin P. These drops open the eustachian tube that connects the back of the nose to the inside of the ear. In ear infections this tube is frequently blocked leading to pain and hearing loss.
Instill 2 drops in each nostril 2 times daily and follow it up with steam inhahaltion. It is of utmost importance that the tube opens up as soon as possible for the infection to come under control. So please make sure that the drops are put properly. For instructions on the proper method of instillation read the instructions on the crimp.
Chewing peppermint also helps to keep the tubes open.
Give her plenty of warm fluids and make sure that you put an extra pillow when she sleeps.
Anoid giving her cold foods and air conditioning.

Dr Rajksihori Godhi.
