Suggest Treatment For Eft Lower Abdominal Pain Due To Dropping Of Dumbell

Posted on Tue, 15 Jul 2014
Question: Have pain in my lower left abdomen for 3 months. I dropped a 35lb dumbell on the bruised area two weeks before severe pain started. Not sure if that's related or not. Some days it's more severe than others. Pain is worse in middle of night; wakes me up often between 4-6am. First started as severe, piercing pain 2-3 mornings/week. Now, it's almost daily and constant - not always severe, but very uncomfortable. Had CT Scan and ultrasound - both came back normal. Getting colonoscopy done in 2 weeks - had adenomatous polyps 2 years ago. I'm only 29. If it's from the dumbell, what tests can be run to show injury?

Brief Answer:
CT scan and clinical examination will show

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

If the pain in the left lower abdomen is due to dropping of the 35 lb dumbell, then a clinical examination and a CT scan would show the injury.
Since CT scan did not reveal anything, you do not have any serious internal injury.
If at all if the dumbell has caused any injury, it could be just the abdominal wall injury ( since CT scan came as normal) and it can be confirmed with clinical examination. Advil or ultracet may be taken if the pain is due to abdominal wall injury.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Ive tried advil and it did not help. Is there another possible source for my pain that the colonoscopy would not show. Is the colonoscopy the clinical exam that is recommended, or some other exam? I have also had on and off blood in the stool .

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If advil did not help, then the pain is less likely to be due to abdominal wall injury.

Colitis can also cause pain in the region mentioned and colonoscopy will confirm it.
There are many different causes of blood in stool and colitis is one of the causes. Since you have this symptom, a colonoscopy may be done not only to look for the cause of bleeding but also that of pain.

I hope that answers your question.
