Suggest Treatment For Elevated PSA Levels Post Treatment For Prostatitis

Question: I am a 69 year old white male. My PSA was 2 in 2012. One year ago it was 5.1, six months ago 4.4, and recently 5.4. I bike ride alot all year - for the last two psa's I did not bike for 4 days before. I was treated for prostatitis with 2 rounds of an antibiotic then one round of Cipro. It did not seem to help - though over time the symptoms (which have always been very minor, a mild discomfort after urinating at night) have reduced. My doctor gave me an appointment to see a urologist in mid - April. Should I try to get one earlier? How concerned should I be? thank you XXXXXXX XXXX
Brief Answer:
NO need being very much concern!
Detailed Answer:
HI,
Your PSA levels, though higher than the normal, are totally understandable with the history of prostatitis. I will suggest that you stay calm and stick to the appointment in April. There is no need to panic and certainly these results do not represent anything of major concern. There is little to worry about a concerns any possible prostate cancer. Also, PSA has been discouraged to be used in screening for any prostate cancers as they are not reliable and may cause more harm than good.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Keep me posted if you have any further worries.

Does this change things
Though I was suspected of having prostatitis tests could not find any bacteria.
Also my grandfather, brother and one or two uncles had prostate cancer.
thanks again

Brief Answer:
It doesn’t really changes much!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This doesn’t changes much because most causes of prostatitis could be aseptic. Be relaxed and stick to your appointment in April.
