Question: I recently had a PSA test. My level was 4.47. My urologist has scheduled a biopsy for me. My family does not have a history of prostate cancer. I'm concerned about this test due to all the info on the web. Should I seek a second opinion?

Brief Answer:
Examination,. repeat scan at a later date

Detailed Answer:
Hi sir.Thanks for your query.

PSA levels can be elevated in various other conditions such as prostatitis and prostate enlargement and at times due to usage of certain medications such as finasteride etc.

Only persistent elevation on serial investigation once 2-3 repeat PSA test are indicative of cancer.Hence a single report definitely doesn't suggest anything abnormal. No need to panic.

I would also recommend examination(per rectal) and repeat the scan over time.

Hope. This answers your query.
