Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist from Fortis Hospital.
I studied the reports send by you and noticed that your mother has abnormal lipid profile, hypothyroidism & hypertension.
1) The current guidelines for abnormal lipid profile treatment considers LDL treatment. Our goal will be maintaining it around 100-115. The treatment for that is statin which includes many drugs. I will recommend you Tab Atorvastatin 10mg once daily at night. High HDL (which is 74 in your mother) is a type of good cholesterol which helps in preventing heart diseases & thus is a good news.
Diet should include less of fatty food & low salt diet. Moderate intensity exercise at least 30min/ day for 5 days a week is recommended.
2) Hypothyroidism - She should start with 12.5mcg of Thyroxine once daily half hr before breakfast. Dose should be increased to 25mcg after a week which than can be continued for a month & than TSH should be done again to further regulate the dose.
3) Hypertension - As she is taking MetXL 50/5mg with which her bp is controlled than she should continue it. It is a very good drug & helps in preventing future cardiac events by decreasing metabolism of heart.
So to summarize her medicines should be
1) Tab Met XL 505mg once daily at 9am
2) Tab Atorvastatin 10mg once daily at 9pm
3) Tab Thyroxine 12.5mcg once daily before breakfast X 7 days
Than 25mcg once daily. These are prescription medicines.
Thanks
