Suggest Treatment For Elevated Liver Enzymes

Question: My husband has elevated liver enzymes from drinking 5 or more oz. of alcohol every day, what type of MD should he see?
Brief Answer:
his primary care physician (PCP)
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
he should start from his primary care physician (a general practitioner or internist). The PCP should guide him through the rest of the investigation. It all depends on the tests. If for example your husband has alcoholic hepatitis then this is a more serious situation than a simple elevation of the liver enzymes and may require specialist management by a hepatologist/gastroenterologist or internist (it depends on the availability of specialists and sub-specialists). Otherwise the PCP should suffice.
Kind Regards!
