Suggest Treatment For Endometrial Hyperplasia

Question: I had endometrial hyperplasia back in 2011. The lining measured 12mm...had the procedure to trim it back. Discovered I had a calcified fibroid. Beginning of this year I started having the same symptoms...bleeding after I exercised (my husband & I are avid exercisers). Anyways was determined it has come back with the lining being 15mm...fibroid is still there along with a pea size cyst.

Since 2011 I have had a small portion of my colon removed due to diverticulous (had it for 16 yrs), appendix removed & also my gallbladder. I have had 4 partial blockages due to complications from all the surgeries I have had. I am 60 yrs old, 5'7" & weigh 125 lbs. Never have had children.

My Dr. mentioned I should consider a hysterectomy....just very nervous about that considering all the complications I have had...if something can go wrong it will happen to me. I am just going to have the same procedure done...trim the lining back. Is that wise? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi dear and thanks for your query to HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question carefully and understand your concern.

In fact treatment of endometrial hyperplasia vary from its type,

1.endometrial hyperplasia without atypia (chances progressing to cancer is less than 5%), this form can be treated with Dilatation and curettage (trim the lining back )

2.endometrial hyperplasia with atypia, chances progressing to cancer is higher and the best treatment is total hysterectomy

Hence while you have other surgeries(colon) and you are afraid of any complication, I would suggest you go for a dilation and curettage (trim endometrium back) but with biopsy this time.

And from the results of the biopsy, it can be decided later if you need to do a hysterectomy or not.

Hope I have been helpful and please feel free for further discussion.

Best regards
