Question: For the last 10-12 days the head of my penis has been itchy. There is no pain in urination or change in frequency, or discoloration. I have had an enlarged prostate for several year? What are your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Possibly candida skin overgrowth.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

The most common reason for the itchiness would be a yeast overgrowth (Candida).

I see that you are using a topical anti fungal cream. Some antifungals work on Candida, others not as well. Antifungals that work well on yeast include miconazole, nystatin, ketoconazole, and clotrimazole.

Keep the area as dry and airy as possible. Dry thoroughly after showering, wear cotton boxers if possible. Avoid a lot of sugar or alcohol at this time.

Another possibility is that you may be sensitive to a laundry product (laundry detergent with scent and dye; laundry dryer sheet/fabric softener) or soap (antibacterial soap, scented soap).

Sometimes it can take several days of use of an anticandidal medication to see improvement, but if it does not show signs of resolution in a week, then do go in to see your doctor.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
