Question: Over the past 3 months I have had episodes of waking in night with total body tremors. Total of 4- the last was this past Sun. night- much more intense-next day I felt total exhaustion and had a headache-never have headaches. I have a Dr's appt. today and not sure how to explain it so she will not think I'm a hypochondriac.

Brief Answer:
Explain your symptoms plainly and allow him investigate!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

It is common to feel you might be seen as overly concerned about health issues when you have intermittent and non debilitating symptoms as in your case. However, no doctor should judge you based on that.

Your task is to explain to the doctor what you have been experiencing. The next action is for him to probe further and investigate every problem. If at the end of the evaluation, if nothing bad is found, he would reassure you. If any disease is identified he will discuss with you an establish a plan.

Remember, you are only qualified a hypochondriac when you continue to nurse fears even after multiple reassurance from your doctors that all is well. You do not fit this definition and there is no reason to start feeling you might be tagged as such.

No one should influence how you present yourself before your doctor. Say it as it feels and do not moderate or exaggerate for any other reasons.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

You didn't really help. What could be the possible health issue from the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Possible causes: Anxiety, essential tremor, low calcium, etc!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There are multiple causes of this. Most disturbing causes would result in continued tremors as is the case with degenerative neurological conditions such as parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, etc.

Because yours is intermittent, it more likely to be caused by conditions such as anxiety, essential tremors, etc. I will not also be surprised if the doctors really cannot pinpoint a cause seen the number of episodes you have had and how far apart they are.

In all, this is more likely to be transient and not represent an ongoing disease condition than a disease being diagnosed. However, evaluation is needed before arriving at that decision.

I wish you well and let me know if this offers more help!
