Question: I am really stressing. I have been having a lot of cracking in my ears for a long time in my ears, and about 3 and half months ago, both of my ears felt clogged up. And I tried the ear wax drops with the water and it seemed to no avail and at least for a while. I still had a clogged left ear. So my wife suggested hydrogen peroxide because the doctor used it in my wife's ears to remove the wax, but I did not know it was diluted. Well I used it undiluted only once like a drop 3%. Left it for a few minutes until the ears were cracking like maybe it was lossening the wax. Then I rinsed it out, and it still felt clogged like I am still in a wind tunnel. I went to urgent care and the doctor said I just probably irritated the tissue. But I still have what feels like a clogged ear. The cracking is in both ears and it feels like I can manipulate my ear tubes. My left ear has ringing in it, the ent said the ringing is from tmj, and I've looked up if tmj can cause clogged ears. I also feel like I lost hearing in my left ear. I didn't think the hydrogen peroxide. But reading some of these mixed answers. I am getting really stressed thinking now I damaged my ears just doing it once. I am really getting bummed, and I am really mad at myself, why did you do that, if I just would have just left it alone. Please I need help please call for more detail. 760 533-8068. It also feels like something is blocking my left ear. I it also sounds like everything vibrates in my ear. Sometimes I can hear my self talking in my head mostly from my left side it is the worst. I only used the peroxide in one ear. I know there is a lot of info I am giving, but I feel the more symptoms I give the better you can answer. I feel like when I kind of hiccup my left ear sounds like a little pop almost like when water comes out of your ears. I have an open bite, and I have a little deviated septum and my torrits in my nose are what the doctors says may be swollen so I am taking Rhinocort. I have cracking in my ears when I barely move my jaw. And I can manipulate what I think is my seta ion tubes from felling clogged to worse. But what I am most scared of is I hope that I did not damage my ear drum by doing that one stupid thing. Please call if you have any additional question. I think that my ears were clogged up last year around this time, but I did not use any peroxide.
My hearing has for the most part been pretty even. I think I kind off self tested how my hearing was maybe awhile ago and there was a slight maybe difference, but barely noticeable. I do not listen to loud music, and when I go see movies at the theater I wear ear plugs. I look forward to hearing your response. I have been highly stressed.. Thx XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

From your symptoms I feel that you have what is known as Eustachian tube dysfunction. The Eustachian tubes connect the nose to the ears and are very important in equalizing the pressure inside the ear. Blockage of Eustachian tube occurs due to allergies or infections of the nose or rarely due to a mass or growth obstructing the opening of the tube at the back of the nose.

You have to see an ENT again to know the exact cause of the blocked tubes, because only examination will help to come to a diagnosis. Since you have been having symptoms for many months you will need a nasal endoscopy to look inside your nose. The opening of the Eustachian tubes can be seen by endoscopy and any abnormality can be detected.

Till then you can use decongestant nose drops like otrivin (oxmetaxoline). Instil 3 drops in each nostril 3 times daily for 6 days and follow it up with steam inhalation. These drops help to open the tubes and ventilate the ears. You can also do valsalva exercise. The details of which you will find on YouTube.

Remember to drink lots of water and avoid air conditioning.

Feel free to follow up,
Regards,
